Murmuration is an exhibition space and artist residency in Chicago founded by artist and educator Kat Bawden out of their studio in Humboldt Park. Murmuration is dedicated to cultivating creative freedom, community, and resource-sharing among artists in Chicago.
The space is named for the massive gatherings of starling birds that fly in shapeshifting formation, sharing warmth and offering collective protection from predators. The word “murmuration” comes from the low murmur produced by the sounds of thousands of starling wingbeats flying together.
